The Challenge
Blue Haven isn’t just another marina on the map. It’s where the world’s biggest yachts tie up when they come to the gin-clear waters of Turks & Caicos. Then Hurricane Irma hit in 2017 and left 71 slips totally destroyed. The piles held firm, but everything else was gone. Rebuilding wasn’t about putting docks back in place. It was about restoring a landmark with a system built to stand tall where the waler-based concrete system had failed.
The Solution
Marina Technologies brought in its D-260 aluminum floating dock system, engineered with high strength and precision. The docks were designed and fabricated to fit the existing 18-inch sleeved steel piles exactly. Drafting less water than the old waler-style concrete, the system is better able to resist winds, waves, and currents in a hurricane. Composite decking, 10-ton adjustable cleats, large top-access utility troughs, and silent, flexible connections complete the dock delivering resilience with refinement. The kind of docks you notice most when nothing goes wrong.
The Results
Blue Haven reopened with its full 71-slip capacity, including in-slip high-speed diesel fueling, pump-out service, and 480-volt power. Since then, it has faced numerous storms with zero issues. Owners are more than satisfied and have already commissioned MTI to expand the marina with 40 additional slips for fuel and fishing vessels. Proof that strength and style don’t just coexist.
